We Will Follow

My family is still being separated. Even though C is well enough to go to school his cough is not gone yet. I’m still getting over a cold and so is Blake. Since Bob has no immune system right now we still have to stay away from my parents. This is hard on all of us. We are used to being together all the time and it’s been a couple weeks now since we have seen each other. I want to be of more help to my mom right now. She needs me. I feel helpless and I know she is feeling alone. Even though things seem to be going wrong this must be part of Your plan, Lord. Our failed plans highlight our dependence on You; we can’t depend on anyone but You, God. We will continue to trust You in this storm and look to the blessings ahead. Hold our hands as You guide us through the unknown. Light our way and steady our feet. We won’t make it without You.

God, you are weaning us from all other dependencies. Our security rests in You alone. Not in other people, not in circumstances. We depend only on You. Even though we feel like we are free falling into the unknown our faith tells us that Your everlasting arms are underneath us, holding us up. Though we don’t know the path You have chosen for us, Your word lights the way. While we cannot understand why we must go through these trials we know that Your ways are higher than our ways and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts. You have Your reasons for allowing us to feel pain. Our suffering is not in vain. You are working everything for good because we love You and have been called according to Your purpose. You have good plans for us, plans to prosper us, plans to give us hope and a future. Even though we may feel so alone we know that Your unfailing love surrounds us driving out all fear. We know that Your presence follows us wherever we go, comforting us and giving us peace that surpasses all understanding.

Lord, search us and know us. Our hearts and minds are set on You. Take our anxieties and leave us peace. Our trust is in You alone and we will not be shaken. You are our God and we are Your people. We will not be discouraged because You are with us and You will never leave us. We will not fear or be dismayed. You drive out our enemies before us! Goodbye cancer and sickness! Bob and grandma have been healed by the stripes of Jesus! You must flee! Bob and grandma are dead to sin and alive unto righteousness and no weapon formed against them will prosper!
We raise the cross high above the storms in our life and step out of the boat to meet our Glorious Savior! The swells may rise but we will not be overtaken! We will overcome by the blood of the lamb! God, You lead us to victory, it is our final destination! Whatever road You lead us down we will follow with unwavering faith and unshakable trust. We will faithfully speak Your praises and patiently endure our trials. We will be content in every situation that arises as we wait for You to deliver us. Because deliver us You will!!

God Alone is More than Enough

The enemy’s plan as of late seems to be:  divide and conquer.  Connor is sick so my family has been quarantined (see this post to catch up:  https://simpliebeloved.wordpress.com/2012/03/04/quarantine/); my sister, Katie, got sick yesterday so she can’t be around my parents; my aunt feels like she is coming down with something; and I had a tight chest and sinus pressure last night so I decided not to take Bob to the hospital today in my mom’s stead.  Sickness seems to be everywhere right now.  Slowly but surely our troops in this battle seem to be dwindling.  Katie and I just happen to be Bob’s caretakers along with my mom; since we can’t do much to help right now my mom is shouldering the responsibilities on her own.  Yesterday, in a moment of total clarity my mom spoke what I had been thinking:  satan is trying to divide us so he can pick us off one by one.  Thank you God, for such wisdom and discernment.  You shed light on the enemy’s plan.  We will not be ensnared in his trap.  We will commit our plans to you and we will succeed.  Your Word is a light for our path and a lamp for our feet.  You make our paths straight.  No weapon formed against us will prosper.  Thank you Lord, that what the enemy would use to destroy us, you will use for good.  Continue to speak to us Lord, we are listening.

Our God is a mighty warrior (Exodus 15:3) and if He is for us, who can be against us (Romans 8:31)?  Though the enemy has plans in this battle so does God (Jeremiah 29:11).  My family has been led into a cutting place.  We are being physically cut off from each other just as Elijah was in 1st Kings 17.  In our cutting place we are being reminded that we can’t count on anyone totally and completely except for God.  God is our provision, our help, our strength, our comfort, our hope and our joy.  God alone will carry each of us through this.  This cutting place is a place of training, a place of refining for our spirits.  Our faith is being tested, our obedience, our trust.  We are being brought to our knees and the only one who can lift us up is God.  This time is a gift in the middle of our battle with cancer.  Our loving father is reminding us that He is here no matter what.  He is here even when our family can’t be.  He is here to comfort us and take care of us.  He will never leave us.  Nothing can separate us from His love.

God, this battle is Yours.  We will be still and rest in you.  We will be content in all circumstances and trust that Your ways are higher than our ways and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts.  We will run the race you have marked out for us.  We will wait expectantly and be of good cheer.  We will continue to walk by faith and live in thanksgiving.  We will overcome by the blood of Your son and the word of our testimony.  We will be led to victory through Christ.  Lead us God, we will follow.

I’m reminded of Psalm 145; it’s such a source of comfort and hope in times of trial.

Psalm 145

I will exalt you, my God the King;
I will praise your name for ever and ever.
Every day I will praise you
and extol your name for ever and ever.

Great is the LORD and most worthy of praise;
his greatness no one can fathom.
One generation commends your works to another;
they tell of your mighty acts.
They speak of the glorious splendor of your majesty—
and I will meditate on your wonderful works.
They tell of the power of your awesome works—
and I will proclaim your great deeds.
They celebrate your abundant goodness
and joyfully sing of your righteousness.

The LORD is gracious and compassionate;
slow to anger and rich in love.

The LORD is good to all;
he has compassion on all he has made.
All your works praise you, LORD;
your faithful people extol you.
They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendor of your kingdom.
Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

The LORD is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
The LORD is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.
The LORD watches over all who love him,
but all the wicked he will destroy.

My mouth will speak in praise of the LORD.
Let every creature praise his holy name
for ever and ever.

 God will never leave us or forsake us.  We are never alone.

Father, thank you for your faithfulness and unfailing love.  Thank you for your peace and strength.  Even though my family and I cannot be together right now we are not alone.  You hold us up in your righteous right hand.  You bring us together in spirit, in prayer and in faith.  Though we are separated from each other for a time we will never be separated from you!  Speak to us, reveal yourself to us and continue to guide us in your truth and on straight paths always steadied by Your hand.  You work all things for good for my family and me, God.  This is all for Your glory.  We praise Your holy name and trust in Your plans for us.  We wait expectantly on You and we are content in even these circumstances.  Continue to give us wisdom and discernment for the days ahead.  We love you, Lord, our rock and our comfort.  Amen.
