Prayer Challenge – Day 5

Lord, keep reminding my family and me of Your laws so that we will not be called fools. Let us walk in Your wisdom and delight in Your commands so that we will be called wise and so You will bless us. May my family and I avoid getting tied up in the affairs of this world so we may be called good soldiers in Christ. Let us be strengthened in our love for You and Your laws and the love You have for us. May our faith and hope in You bind us together. Let my family and me never be separated from You or from each other; for Your word states, “three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken,” my family and I will not be broken or led astray. We follow our father’s good advice; we don’t wander off from our mother’s teachings. We wrap ourselves in them from head to foot; we wear them like a scarf around our necks. Wherever we walk, they’ll guide us; whenever we rest, they’ll guard us. When we wake up, they’ll tell us what’s next. For sound advice is a beacon, good teaching is a light, moral discipline is a life path. My family and I follow sound advice that lines up with Your laws. Your word is a light to our paths and a lamp to our feet. Help us to always walk the path of moral discipline for it is the path of life.

Avoiding Foolishness:

  • Titus 3:9 – “But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

Prayer: May Connor and Blake avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless. My sons will abstain from sinful desires, which war against their souls. Sanctify them in truth, Lord. Renew them with Your word for Your word is truth.

  • 2 Timothy 2:23 – ”Again I say, don’t get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake will not get involved in foolish, ignorant arguments that only start fights. My sons are peace makers and they are blessed; they shall be called Your Sons. Connor and Blake give gentle answers and turn away wrath, they do not speak harshly to stir up anger. My sons are men of honor because they avoid strife. They are not fools who are quick to quarrel. Connor and Blake will not fall into the trap of pride because pride breeds quarrels. Instead, they are humble and they seek godly counsel therefore wisdom is found in them.

  • Ephesians 5:4 – “Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake do not speak in obscene stories, foolish talk or coarse jokes. Instead, they speak words of thankfulness and praise to You. Lord, let the words of Connor and Blake’s mouths and the meditations of their hearts be pleasing in Your sight. Make them watch your tongues and keep their mouths shut so that they will stay out of trouble. Give Connor and Blake gentle tongues which are trees of life, do not let perverseness in to break their spirits. They have mouths of righteousness because they utter wisdom and speak justice.

  • Matthew 7:26 – “But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake are not foolish. They hear Your teachings and they obey. They do not build their homes on sand but on You, for You are the Rock of Ages. With You and Your commands as their foundation and their desire, they will not be shaken. My sons are not only hearers of Your word but they are also doers of Your word.

  • Ecclesiastes 4:13 – “It is better to be a poor but wise youth than an old and foolish king who refuses all advice.”

Prayer: Lord, do not let Connor and Blake ever refuse godly counsel. Instead, let them seek out companions who sharpen them as iron sharpens iron. Let my sons always hear good counsel, receive instruction with open hearts, and accept correction with humility, that they may be wise in the time to come. Connor and Blake will heed the guidance of the godly and they will not fall; they will be safe in the multitude of counselors.

  • Titus 3:3 – “Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.”

Prayer: Lord, may Connor and Blake never be foolish or disobedient. Do not let them be deceived or misled. Do not let them become slaves to their flesh, bound by many lusts and pleasures. Do not let their lives be full of evil and envy, do not let them live in hate. But let them live lives cloaked in the righteousness and grace of Christ. Let them live in the freedom given to them because of Your loving-kindness and goodness. Out of Your mercy, Lord, You sent Your Son to save my sons so that they may be cleansed and renewed by the Holy Spirit. They accept this new birth which You have so graciously given them and they walk in the freedom which it has afforded them. They are not bound by the law of sin or by their fleshly desires. Connor and Blake have been conformed to the divine will and purpose to which You have called them. They are heirs to the eternal life which You have made available for them through Jesus’ sacrifice. Let my sons always set their eyes on the hope of glory. Let them learn to apply themselves to good deeds (to honest labor and honorable employment), so that they will not live idle and uncultivated and unfruitful lives.

  • Proverbs 14:7 – “Stay away from fools, for you won’t find knowledge on their lips.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake will stay away from fools and self-confident people, for they will not find knowledge on their lips. They will seek out companions whom walk in uprightness and whom reverently and fear You, God. My sons and their companions will not live lives contrary to Your commands; their lives will line up with Your word and Your laws. Connor and Blake are not simple-minded, they are prudent and they will be crowned with knowledge. They devise good therefore loving-kindness and mercy, loyalty and faithfulness, shall be theirs. My sons have strong confidence and their children shall always have a place of refuge for they reverently fear You, Lord. Connor and Blake will not be snared by death but they will receive a fountain of life because they fear You with reverence and worship, God. Your favor, Oh Lord, rests upon my sons because they are wise and discreet servants. May You never turn Your wrath upon them for they will not live shamefully in Your eyes. Connor and Blake do not act in envy, jealousy or wrath and their bones will not be rotted. Instead, they act in wisdom, love, obedience and humility and they have calm and undisturbed minds and hearts which bring life and health to their bodies.

  • Ephesians 5:17 – “Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake do not act thoughtlessly, but they understand what You want them to do, Lord. My sons have the mind of Christ. They take every thought captive into Your obedience, Lord Jesus. They are transformed by the renewing of their minds because they meditate on Your precepts day and night, God. Do not let my sons delude and deceive themselves with empty excuses and groundless arguments; Connor and Blake are not sons of rebellion and disobedience and they do not associate with people who are. My sons are light in You, Lord. They walk as children of the Light. For the fruit of the Light consists in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart, and trueness of life. They have learned what is pleasing to You and their lives are constant proof of what is most acceptable to You. Connor and Blake take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and enterprises of darkness; their lives are lived in contrast to the lives of those who live in darkness. Connor and Blake’s ways expose and convict those who live in darkness. My sons are awake in You, Jesus, they have arisen from the dead and You shine upon them and give them light. You also shine through them, Lord Jesus, and let others see Your love and Your truth in them so that they too may arise from the dead and be awake in You.

  • Proverbs 19:1 – “Better to be poor and honest than to be dishonest and a fool.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake are honest and broken in spirit. They are not dishonest fools and proud in their hearts. They are not foolish men who subvert their ways or ruin their affairs; their hearts are not resentful toward You, Lord. My sons gain wisdom because they love their lives and they understand Your ways so they shall prosper and find good all the days of their lives. Connor and Blake do not hear instruction only to ignore it andstray from the words of knowledge. They are doers of the word of the one true God. Connor and Blake are not slothful and their hands are not idle and they will not go hungry. My sons are led to life by You, Lord, because they love You and they live in awe of You and Your ways. They will rest satisfied in Your presence and they cannot be visited with evil. Connor and Blake keep Your commandments, God, and they keep their lives, they do not despise Your ways. My sons have pity on the poor and give freely to You and You repay them ten-fold. They do not despise discipline therefore Nick and I discipline them while there is still hope. We do not exasperate them and set them to ruin. With Your help, Father, we bring C & B up in Your instruction.

  • Ecclesiastes 10:2 – “A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one.”

Prayer: Connor and Blake are wise therefore they choose the right road. They do not act as fools and take the wrong one. Their words are gracious and win them favor with You, Lord, and with men for they are wise. My sons do not think on or speak curses; their thoughts and words are pleasing in Your sight, God. Connor and Blake succeed in all that they do; You bless the work of their hands, Lord, for they work with wisdom and diligence. My sons live their lives with gentle and calm spirits and no one will be able to open their mouths against them. Connor and Blake are not like those who observe the wind [and wait for all conditions to be favorable] and do not sow, and they are not like those who regard the clouds and will not reap. In the morning they sow your seeds, and in the evening they do not withhold their hands, for they know not which shall prosper, whether this or that, or whether both alike will be good. My sons behold the sun with their eyes and walk in the light and they have sweet and pleasant lives. Connor and Blake rejoice in their adolescence and their hearts cheer them in the days of their youth. They walk not in the ways of their hearts and in the sight of their eyes. My sons are free from the lusts of their hearts and they are not brought to sorrow and their minds are not consumed with evil thoughts. Their youth is not spent in vain, devoid of truth because they are obedient to You, Lord, and they love Your laws.

My Father God

I just had a really proud mommy moment. Connor was drawing some sunflowers and Blake was playing with Batman while I got lunch ready. Out of nowhere Connor said, “Mom, you know how to spell popcorn? P-o-p-c-o-r-n.” He finished spelling and beamed with pride. I got so excited I wrote a few words on a piece of paper and asked him to find and read the word popcorn; he picked it out of the bunch immediately. I’m so proud of him! He is such a bright, little boy and such a fast learner; he amazes me. This is a huge accomplishment for a 4 year old and I am beginning to really see the fruit of our labor. All the hours spent learning the alphabet, the letter sounds, playing rhyming games and reading. The preschool tuition and prayer these past couple of years; it’s all paid off.

It makes me think about the strides I have made in my walk with God. He must have “proud daddy” moments when I choose to speak life rather than death. When I step out in faith and resist fear and doubt. When I praise him in the storms and look to the sunshine I trust will come. When I choose contentment and thanksgiving in all circumstances and rest in Him and His timing.

My Heavenly Father is teaching me just as I’m teaching my kids. I’m learning the ABC’s of faith, the sound of His voice and the truth of his Word. I’m learning to follow His lead and trust His timing no matter what. Just as Connor persevered in his studies and yielded results I too will persevere in mine and I will reap a harvest when the time is right.

Thank you Lord for your patience and love. Thank you for allowing me to go through the fire so that I will continue to grow in wisdom and stature and favor with you and man. Thank you for never leaving me and always directing my footsteps according to your word. I trust you and love you. I long to hear you call me your good and faithful servant. Your joy and pride in me is such a gift. Thank you for this day. I rejoice in your grace and mercy. Amen!
